By now, you would have already made up your mind of working in Dubai. Obviously, you must have taken this decision looking at the giant strides taken by the economy of Dubai over the past few decades. Building a career in Dubai is not difficult to imagine, as the country will offer you enough opportunities for you to do so. Before you start though, you would need to think on a lot of factors.
Based on experience, here are 3 things you should know even before you start working in Dubai. These things will help you in building your career in Dubai.
- What is your first salary in Dubai? – How your career goes in terms of you earning money will be dependant on how much you earn in your first job? The local currency is Dirhams. If you start with a salary of 3000 Dirhams ($750) per month, you could expect your next increment or salary jump only after you spend couple of years with the company.
- Is your job done by thousands of other people? – You will find many sales jobs in Dubai with the presence of many financial institutions. Please note that a decade back these jobs were considered ideal for one to build a career in Dubai. As is, a lot of individuals have financial products galore and do not want any more. In such a case, succeeding in a sales career in Dubai is very difficult.
- Understand the climate of Dubai – Ok, this is important and in a lot of cases, the first determining point if your choice is the correct one. Dubai can get really hot especially during summer months. If your job is one that requires spending a lot of time indoors, consider yourself in trouble very soon.
The heat in Dubai is unbearable at times, and you spending a lot of time outdoors will have you suffering from sun burns and rashes in no time.
Sitting in a chair in your air-conditioning cabin in the office and working would be the best opportunity for you. Not all would be able to land up a job like the one described above. At the same time, you should focus on the basics described above to build a good career in Dubai.

Prime Minister of the State, Sheikh Bin Rashid Al Makhtoum has worked hard with authorities to convert Dubai to a financial hub attracting investments from all over the world. As on date, Dubai already boasts of some wonders like – Burj Al Arab, The Palm Islands, Burj Dubai (The tallest skyscraper in the world when it is ready). Finding an engineering job in Dubai though would not be difficult for the right individual, only if he has the skills and the right amount of experience.
Working in Dubai is nothing short of pleasure. Competitive work environment and a rewarding culture for performance, Dubai recognizes good talent. No other reason could be attributed for this city to rise from what was a sand desert 25 years ago to where it is now. An engineering job in Dubai can be in any of the sectors mentioned below
- Construction – There is where a lot of action is. The real estate, residential and commercial sector in Dubai has been growing at the rate of knots. A construction engineer having 4-5 years of experience can land a decent construction-engineering job in Dubai with big wigs like Emaar, DLF etc.
- Information Technology – Dubai Government has invested a lot of capital to make their city an IT friendly city. Special free zones like the SEZ have been set up. Dubai Internet City has already seen a decent influx of investors from the West. Traditionally, Information Technology has not been known to be a key driver of the Dubai economy. All that is changing with a lot of emphasis on setting up of Wi-Fi zones and laying satellite communication links.
Getting an Engineering job in Dubai is difficult until you know of someone who could help you out. There are so many companies that you would feel lost. Recruiting agencies would try their best to help you out. Another problem is the visa that will allow you to work in an engineering job in Dubai. You cannot work in Dubai unless you have a legal employment visa sponsored by your company.
With these minor issues notwithstanding, engineering job in Dubai is one of the high-paying and a highly rewarding jobs in Dubai.
